Hey ya, glad your back! Welcome to our last week of “God Is ALWAYS Faithful.” Today, we will be discussing God’s promise to those who love Him. Let’s jump in!
For starters, what is a promise? By definition, a promise is a declaration or assurance that one will definitively do, give, complete, or arrange a particular occurrence or situation. In other words, it is an oath that what someone has said, will be successfully accomplished. Promises are a way of conveying ones dedication to seeing something through to its completion. It carries more weights than an ordinary exchange of words because of the seriousness of the intent behind the words being spoken. A promise invokes a special kind of assurance; one that requires faith in the speaker to follow through. Therefore, making it so important to honor the promise made. You are asking someone to believe in your words and have faith in your ability to deliver.
Throughout the bible, we see many examples of promises that the Lord has made to His children. Below are a few examples:
“For I know the plans and thoughts that I have for you,’ says the Lord, ‘plans for peace and well-being and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” –Jeremiah 29:11
“Blessed be the Lord, who has given rest to His people Israel, in accordance with everything that He promised. Not one word has failed of all His good promise, which He spoke through Moses His servant.” –1 Kings 8:56
“Do not withhold Your compassion and tender mercy from me O Lord; Your lovingkindness and Your truth will continually preserve me.” –Psalm 40:11
“Let us seize and hold tightly the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is reliable and trustworthy and faithful [to His word];” –Hebrews 10:23
“And we know [with great confidence] that God [who is deeply concerned about us] causes all things to work together [as a plan] for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to His plan and purpose.” –Romans 8:28
God promises us His grace, mercy, compassion, protection, and love. He assures us that He will never abandon us or forsake us, loving us unconditionally, no matter the circumstance or offense (on our behalf against Him).
[Think of it this way….every time you go out into the world, willfully sin, and make it back home at the end of the day…there is EVIDENCE of God’s promise.]
Take a moment to reflect…what are some ways God’s promises have manifested in YOUR lives?
