God Is Faithful; Why Aren’t We? – Week 3: We Didn’t Do it, So We Don’t Approve It.

Published on

Hey ya and welcome back! Today we are going to be continuing our conversation on “God is faithful; why aren’t we?” This week, we will focus on learning to relinquish control.

To start off, what is the definition of control? Control is the power to influence, direct or determine how and when a course of events will occur.  Because God has granted us free will, we often CHOOSE to be in control of how things in our lives play out. This is turn causes a disconnect between us and God, because we are not allowing for Him to move for us. Instead we are relying solely on our understanding, forgetting that His understanding is higher and greater than our own [Isaiah 55:8-9].

God doesn’t need for us to have everything figured out. In fact, His word teaches us that His power is made perfect in our WEAKNESS [2 Corinthians 12:9]. We need only to submit to Him, and He will take care of the rest. However, for a lot of us, the issue lies in that very word: submit. Submission by definition means to accept or yield to the power, authority or will of another.  In other words, RELINQUISHING CONTROL. By allowing for God to take the reigns, and walking in obedience to His will for us, we now begin to walk in agreement with HIS purpose for us, instead of our own.  This in turn allows for His peace to overtake our beings, knowing that He will never fail us.

Below are some scriptures that will hopefully serve as gentle reminders to trust in God’s power and authority, keeping our minds steadfast on His promise of faithfulness and peace.

“Trust in and rely confidently on the Lord with all your heart And do not rely on your own insight or understanding. In all your ways know and acknowledge and recognize Him, And He will make your paths straight and smooth.” -Proverbs 3:5

“Do not be anxious or worried about anything, but in everything [every circumstance and situation] by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue to make your [specific] requests known to God. And the peace of God [that peace which reassures the heart, that peace] which transcends all understanding, [that peace which] stands guard over your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus [is yours].” -Philippians 4:6-7

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways And my thoughts higher than your thoughts.” -Isaiah 55:8-9

“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavily burdened [by religious rituals that provide no peace], and I will give you rest [refreshing your souls with salvation].” -Matthew 11:28

“Let the peace of Christ [the inner calm of one who walks daily with Him] be the controlling factor in your hearts [deciding and settling questions that arise]. To this peace indeed you were called as members in one body [of believers]. And be thankful [to God always].” -Colossians 3:15
