How Do We Know God Loves Us? – Week 1: Jesus Loves Me This I Know…

Published on

Hey youngins! Glad to see you all back! Today we will be kicking off a new discussion, and this month we will be talking about how we know God loves us. Let’s begin!

To start off, who can tell me about Jesus? Who was He? What did He do? Why was He sent to us?

Jesus of Nazareth, also known as Jesus Christ, was the one and only begotten [fathered] son of God. He was born to Mary, and her husband, Joseph. God, who so loved His son, trusted Mary and Joseph to be His earthly parents; to care for Him and raise Him as their own. As believers and followers of God, they accepted this responsibility, and did as God commanded of them.

From a very early age [12 years old] Jesus began spending time in the temple, learning about His father in heaven.  His knowledge and understanding of God continued to grow throughout the years, until He was found to be ready to go out into the world and teach the people; He was about 30 years old.  Jesus did not only teach about His father, but He was an embodiment [representation] of God on earth. This meant, that He was able to perform miracles, just as God was.  His first miracle as described in the bible, was turning water into wine. We see many more examples throughout the bible of miracles performed by Jesus, such as healing the sick, raising the dead, controlling the weather, multiplying food and casting out demons.  These miracles were evidence of not only God’s power and glory, but also of His EXISTENCE.

See, in those days, people had wandered so far away from God, that they stopped believing He was real. They started putting their faith in idols [false Gods] instead of the true God in heaven. This made God both very sad and very angry. For this reason, Jesus was placed on earth; to bring the people back to God.

We’ll leave off here for today, but I am going to give you guys a challenge before we go. I challenge all of you to learn about one miracle Jesus performed in the bible. We will discuss your findings next Sunday when we continue our conversation on how we know God loves us. Sound good?

See you all next week!

Interactive Activity: Each child gets assigned a letter(s) of the course title for that week and designs it to their liking. These letters will then be collected and used at a later date for the creation of a “bigger picture” activity.
