Hey youngins! Welcome back to another week of “How Do We Know God Loves Us?”
As you guys may remember, we have been discussing the life of Jesus: who He was, why He was sent to us, and what happened to Him. This week, we will be learning what He says about our conduct and how we should live in order to be able to enter the kingdom of heaven. Let us begin!!
“AT THAT time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, ‘Who is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?’ He called a little child and set him before them, and said, ‘I assure you and most solemnly say to you, unless you repent [that is, change your inner self–your old way of thinking, live changed lives] and become like children [trusting, humble, and forgiving], you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like a child is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Whoever receives and welcomes one child like this in My name receives Me;” -Matthew 18:1-5
According to the above scripture, Jesus explains to His disciples that in order for one to enter the kingdom of heaven, they must first become like little children. What does this mean? Children, by nature, are trusting, humble, forgiving and INNOCENT. Due to their lack of malice [ill will], they are pure in nature, seeking only that which is good and pleasing before the eyes of the Lord. Their capacity [ability] to love has not been tarnished [damaged] by the world or the sinful nature of the flesh. Therefore, God calls for us to turn from our wicked ways, humble ourselves and behave as such: innocent, pure and full of love–these will inherit the kingdom.
Interactive Activity: Each child gets assigned a letter(s) of the course title for that week and designs it to their liking. These letters will then be collected, stored away with last week letters and used at a later date for the creation of a “bigger picture” activity.
